Sign Service and Installation Technician
Job description
The role of a sign service and installation technician is to complete sign related tasks in a professional and safe manner. We expect the completed projects to look great. That means technicians will need to consider the quality of the finished project throughout the installation.
Duties
You are expected to be competent, experienced and skilled at the following tasks.
- Install signage as per written work orders. This includes channel letters, pylons, individual letters, cabinets, LED retrofits, awnings, billboards, skid signs, freestanding signs, panel signs and other sign types.
- Operate aerial work platforms (including swing stage) and boom truck during the course of installations.
- Coordinate with contractors (bobcat, crane, etc.) on job sites to complete the installations in a safe and timely manner.
- Removal of existing signs. This includes filling in the holes and disconnecting power with care and attention.
- Load and transport signs with care to ensure there are no scratches or other damage to signs or equipment.
- Apply vinyl graphics on-site.
- Keep installation trucks, equipment and related shop space clean and organized.
- Maintain inventory on installation trucks and in shop/shed.
- Review 1st Call locate tickets to ensure dig area is clear of utilities before drilling post holes (drilling by bobcat).
- Submit an accurate timesheet daily.
- Obey all safety rules (see below).

Mandatory Requirements
- Show up for work daily, on time, sober and with a positive attitude.
- You must be comfortable working at heights.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
- SSIT certification.
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a sign installer.
Safety Rules
You are expected to protect yourself, the general public and signage/property from damage during the course of your work. You must follow the safety rules listed below and you are also expected to use your experience and knowledge to ensure all work is being performed in a safe manner.
- PPE is required on all sites. This includes hard hats, reflective vests, work boots, long pants, safety glasses and gloves. Additional safety equipment such as hearing protection, fall protection and face shield shall be used as required. If you’re not sure… ASK!
- We take our job sites seriously. Traffic cones, beacons and danger tape (as required) are used on all sites to restrict the general public from entering our work area. Our job sites should look extremely professional.
- Obey provincial safety regulations.
- We have a toolbox meeting every morning to discuss the day’s jobs and appropriate safety measures for each site. Additional safety measures and general safety policies will be discussed at this time.
